I was highly mesmerized by the vivid colors of the traditional outfit and the movement of the fabric as this lady dances away. The fabric folds beautifully with her movements. The gold trimmings and details in the fabric make her stand out. My favorite part when painting her was figuring out how to paint the shadows combined with the embroidery.
One of the many things I am inspired by is culture, and since living in Kuwait for many years I keep constantly discovering its rich history and cultural traditions. One of my favorites is how differently people played games when they were younger; with no tablet or console in sight. Even their clothes, little girls would wear dresses (Dara’a) most of the time and would run around their neighborhood barefoot sometimes.
I highly enjoy painting flowers, playing around with different colors and textures that they portray and how they differ from one another. I love incorporating their delicate forms on canvas since they add so much life to a painting.
A tradition of weaving wreaths, decorating them with flowers and candles to light up the night sky as they are released into the water in hopes of a happy marriage in life, a Slovak tradition that I find beautiful that holds innocent wishes. I adore the way all the wreath colors reflect in the water. As the candles light up through the night as if lighting up a path for their future.
I didn’t exactly have a plan in mind when I painted horses. I wanted to challenge myself by painting something other than people and landscapes and the first thing that came to mind was horses. I was most interested in their strong posture and stance, so I thought I would give it a go, and incorporate the elements that I usually practiced by incorporating a forest and turning it into a visual story.

I am highly intrigued by the past and the historical artifacts that came to be during its time. Early on when I moved to Kuwait, I started to slowly learn a little about its history. I was most amazed by the ships at the time and how they were built and maintained.

One day I was reflecting upon the idea of the afterlife, and I imagined what it would be like for our souls to continue living, or in other words, to cross to the other side. We each have an image of what our path looks like, and to me, it looked like this.
